How to use ENS in Talisman
A Step-by-Step Guide
ENS (Ethereum Naming Service) is a decentralized naming system for web3 identities and usernames.
ENS simplifies the interaction with blockchain addresses by replacing lengthy and complex alphanumeric strings with easy-to-remember names.
Note that ENS domains, similar to traditional DNS (Internet domain names), require periodic renewal. If not renewed the ENS domain can be reserved by someone else. As a result, the address associated with an ENS domain may change, hence the necessity to regularly check the addresses.
In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of using ENS within Talisman. We'll cover how to send funds to an ENS, add an ENS to the address book, and watch an ENS account.
Sending funds to an ENS
Add an ENS to the Address book
Adding an ENS domain to your address book provides an additional layer of security and convenience. Refer to our previous article on Address Book for more context.
Navigate to Settings.
Click on “Address book”
You will now be able to access your address book. Once in your address book, select Ethereum.
Click “Add a contact”.
Enter a name for the contact and the ENS domain. You should see the associated address appear. Then click Save.
Watch an ENS account
Check out our prior tutorial on Watched Accounts for context.
This guide outlines the steps for watching an ENS account using Talisman.
Go to Settings and click Add account. Select Add Watched Account at the bottom of the screen and choose Ethereum as the account type. Assign a name to your Ethereum watched account and input the ENS domain or public address of the account you want to watch. The associated address should appear in the input box.
If you want to include the asset balances of the watched account in your overall portfolio balance, toggle on the ‘Include in my portfolio option’ (the button will turn green), and then click Add.
By enabling the ‘Include in my portfolio’ option, you ensure that the asset balances of the watched account will be included in your total portfolio balance.
Conversely, turning off this option will NOT include the asset balances of the watched account in overall portfolio balance.
